A streamlined Catherine Middleton is having her engagement ring resized amid fears it will fall off as she trims down ahead of her royal wedding.

Some observers are concerned the 29-year-old is taking her fitness regime too far, with British media reports suggesting the brunette has gone from a fit but curvy size 10 when she met Prince William in 2001, to a size six less than three weeks from her marriage.

Middleton has admitted she is on a wedding diet ahead of her nuptials, the details of which are unknown.

"She has looked very thin for a long time but what is probably driving this weight loss is adrenaline. I think she is very nervous," royal expert and editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine Ingrid Seward told Britain's Daily Mail newspaper on Wednesday.

The princess-to-be admitted to suffering wedding jitters when speaking with the public during an official engagement earlier this week.

Seward said it's little wonder, with reports that some two billion people around the world will watch her walk down the aisle on April 29.

Known to eat well and drink little alcohol, Middleton is fit, active and into sport.

"I think Kate exercises at the moment to build strength and burn off the adrenaline," Seward said.

"I'm sure it's stressful to be analysed in this way and have everyone watching her every move. It must be very difficult if you are not used to it."

The royal bride has been training at the same London gym once frequented by her fiance's mother, Princess Diana.

All those gym sessions along with a strict diet mean that Diana's dazzling sapphire and diamond engagement ring, given to Middleton by Prince William, needs to be modified.

The ring, valued at around $50 million, had started turning on Miss Middleton's size H finger, a royal source told The Sun newspaper.

Two tiny platinum beads dubbed "speed bumps" will be fitted to the inside base of the band, making it a comfortable size I.

"The band was turning. Kate absolutely adores it and didn't want to cause a fuss," the source said.

"A bride's worst nightmare is looking down and seeing her ring has fallen off. One can only imagine how this is magnified when you are marrying the future king of England."

News of Miss Middleton's weight loss is also expected to affect the final adjustments to her much-anticipated wedding gown, the details of which she wants kept secret until the day of the wedding.

Such is her determination to be secretive, it's believed Miss Middleton may have had three dresses made.

"Miss Middleton has commissioned three wedding dresses from three different designers. (She) has two 'backups' should the designer of her chosen wedding dress be correctly leaked," fashion writer Anne Chertoff blogged on Tuesday.

Preparations for Miss Middleton's entry to the royal family have also included her confirmation as a member of the Church of England.

St James' Palace acknowledged on Wednesday that Middleton was confirmed by the Right Reverend Richard Chartres, the bishop of London, at a private ceremony on March 10.

Her confirmation was not necessary to marry William but she is now entitled to receive communion in the Church of England.

Meanwhile, a wax version of Prince William added to the Madame Tussauds collection in 2005 is getting a makeover of its own ahead of the royal wedding.

One of the waxworks most popular attractions, the faux Prince William has been fitted with a new dapper blue suit and matching tie, his hair has been trimmed and his black shoes given a polish, while his skin tones have had a touch-up.

A statue of Miss Middleton is due to join wax William a short time after the wedding, the museum says.
