A Nine News cameraman has filmed the moment a car in Julia Gillard's convoy struck him and ran over his foot last night.

Angus Paterson was chasing the convoy as Ms Gillard travelled to visit her parents at a retirement village in Adelaide.

The car knocked Mr Paterson down before rolling over his foot.

"Ow! Get off! Move forward! Move forward!" he can be heard yelling at the car as it stayed put.

Mr Paterson was treated by paramedics at the scene and was taken to hospital for further treatment.

Ms Gillard was leaving the Commonwealth Bank building in Adelaide after hearing of Kevin Rudd's shock resignation.

Mr Rudd, who made the announcement at 5.20pm (AEST), will arrive in Brisbane tomorrow in time to challenge Ms Gillard for the leadership on Monday morning.

Mr Rudd accused Ms Gillard of deserting him in the face of continual attacks on his integrity by a "number of faceless men" and frontbencher Simon Crean.
